We're proud to participate in the Open Source community. We see our role as being a service company devoted to helping businesses learn about and use open source software.

Open Source changes many of the rules of business. Instead of being completely driven by revenew, Open Source software is often offered under what we call the "NPR model." Anybody can listen to public radio, but enough people have to pay in order for it to stay on the air.

Anybody can use Open Source software for free, but enough people have to contribute back to the community or it won't get developed. Giving back to the community is a key part of being a responsible part of the community.

At Freelock Computing, 10% of the revenue of all of our retainer agreements and fixed price project fees are contributed back to the open source projects used for the solutions. We also contribute code fixes and make other contributions such as the Open Source Providers web site to the community.
